I am settling back into school life rather nicely and I am really looking forward to starting on Christmas gifts! I have some stockings in mind for my family and probably some ornaments, but definitely lots of embroidery!
Here is what I have finished for the Tea Towel Tour. The purple marks are disappearing ink so those should fade soon.
Here is one of the other towels
I think there is one more towel left in the tour, then I can start on some gifts! Yea!
I forgot to mention the Photoshop class I am taking this quarter. It is drop in, no grades but I am so happy that I have to opportunity to pick an expert Photoshopper's mind! Here is something I have been working on. They are also available in my photo shop.
These are my color photos that were changed into black and white. Then I added a couple of filters and frames to add that vintage look to them. My dad had a box of old photos that his dad took when they were children. They were all square and had a frame like these ones. I loved the feeling of age and memory that the photos evoked in me, even though my father was a child in those pictures. Knowing that they were part of my ancestry almost made the memories mine too. I was hoping to get that feeling from these photos.
Ocean Play- This was meant to remind the viewer of old summer days.
Farm and Fields- This one needs to be seen close up to see all of the details. I love how the orchards follow the curves in the railroad tracks and the road. There is so much movement in this picture!
Out to Pasture- Cows are truly happy in these hills.
School has got me busy! October is my favorite month! I am loving the pumpkins, the decor, costume shopping and sharing a bag of mini snickers bars with my husband (damn halloween candy).
The last two weeks have flown by. Its a collage of lectures, preschool, yoga, homework, birthdays and very little crafting. I am excited to start on the next tea towel in the Tea Towel Tour 4. A photo is forthcoming. Its still in the camera.
The little one started preschool. Preschool is an experience in emotional parenting. So far she has gone without crying and clinging to our legs, and is happy the whole day (except naptime when she cant stop wiggling and whispering to her neighbor). Does she miss us at all? I guess pre-school is way more fun then mom and dad! I suppose I will get used to my little social butterfly and I know I'll enjoy every minute of it that I do see.
This yoga class is not all that its cracked up to be. Its not that I am not learning things... I have never taken yoga as a college class before, only in studios or gyms. This is the most basic yoga I have ever experienced. I may be a little overweight but I have always been super flexible. Half lotus is normal sitting for me and she is starting the poses so easy that I cant feel anything. I understand that she is starting easy for those people who have never done yoga, but its just so easy that its frustrating. I want to feel like I have been to a yoga class. There are also a lot of people in the class so I am always having to look around me so I dont hit anyone. Then there is the fact that she goes through sun salutations so fast that the energy doesnt have time to get moving!
I also got new glasses. They are funkier then my last pair. I like them.
I am 26 now. I actually had to count the years to make sure. My birthday was great. I got several little things for myself like cookbooks, kitchen odds and ends, and other things. Tom's birthday is the day after mine. He spent his birthday money on falconry supplies. More on my husbands addiction with falconry later. I think its about to get a lot more interesting.
I dont know what is going on but I have gotten so much awesome free stuff in the last two weeks. Starting with this beautiful old quilt top.
Two long skeins of beautiful wool yarn (destined to be a small rug perhaps)
The best of all doesnt have a photo, but I can tell you about it. A friend of mine who was an aspiring chef turned organic farmer gave me a huge amount of gorgeous baking supplies. A frosting tip set that has more then 20 tips, several carving tools and dyes. I got a wok and a large skillet with high sides and lid that I could never afford. He also gave me a beautiful cheese board with knives and a case, a mandoline (is that what its called?), and all the cake pans I could want including two tart pans. Oh! I cant forget the bagguette proofing pans! Those will come in handy.
Fall is in full swing here in Central California. The leaves have begun to turn a brilliant scarlet and gold, the air has a crispness that only comes from the North, and we have a chance of rain in the forecast. The best part is that my birthday is coming up soon! I love October!
