One day several months ago, on a whim, I decided to try dyeing a piece of linen with cherry juice. I am so happy that I took photos of the process and am getting around to writing about it.
Dyeing With Cherry Juice
Start with the linen
and the cherry juice
Be sure to eat the last cherries that someone must have missed. Lucky me!
Let it soak in the juice for an hour or two, or longer if you are the patient type. Then squeeze all the juice out of it. Hand wash it with a dot of dish soap and rinse it out until the water is clear.
Hang to dry someplace sunny.
Some notes on this project...
I am a beginner at dyeing fabric with natural dyes but I think it is a great idea! If you have any experience and want to give us a tip please leave one in the comments! Or leave us a link to photos of your dye project. I found a good site on different kinds of things that can be used as natural dyes and how. Check it out here.
I have read that to keep the dye from fading you should pre-treat it with a fixative. I am going to try that next time. There is more info about fixatives like salt in the above mentioned website. Have fun!
