Hi everyone!
I finished up an embroidery project! I know its been a while. I have been collecting as many vintage patterns online as I could get my hands on and I finally did one.
And here is the back. I tried to keep it as neat as possible because this is on a hankie and the other side is visible.
I also tried to do the Flower Girl dress from Weekend Sewing, but the pattern runs a little small. I say its about a 3T or so. I am going to have to enlarge it a couple sizes to fit my little munchkin.
I had a terrible time with the gathering on this dress. I have done it before a few times and its not hard, but I ended up tearing out the seam three times before giving up for the night. Well, I have to admit that the first time I tore out the seam it was because I had sewn in onto the bodice inside out. But the 2nd and 3rd times were definitely the fabrics fault! HaHa!
So, I think I might give up on this one, cut off the straps and turn the skirt into a Smocked Sundress. I love the bright yellow gingham fabric. Its says summer so clearly and its from a vintage sheet I found in a huge trash bag of fabric in my mom's garage. The bag had belonged to the mother of my best friend who moved away when I was little. It would be wonderful to use it as a dress for my little girl.

I finished the hearts.

Taken from Mary Thomas Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches
The patterns from top down are:
Top-Torocko Stitch
2- French Knots
3- Squared Filling Stitch 1
4- Couched Filling Stitch
Bottom- Plaid Filling Stitch
I hand drew the hearts onto fabric first then filled in each heart with a different filling stitch. Then I backstitched around the edges. I think the plaid one turned out to be my favorite. Those of you with a sharp eye might notice that I tore out the stitching on the second heart. In the last post I had a loose white satin stitch that I was weaving pink through. It ended up being really difficult to keep the threads separate and make it look smooth so I tore it out and tried something that worked a lot better texture wise. Enjoy!
I have been really enjoying all of the beautiful Valentine's day embroideries!
There are some great free patterns going around.
Here, here, here, and this one is free until the end of Feb.
I am working on some hearts of my own.

I used several different filling stitches for the hearts and then did a straight stitch around them. I only have a couple of hearts left. I love Valentines day!
I finished the Mandala!

It was done about a week ago but I got knocked over by midterms and ANOTHER cold! I had the same sore throat 3 weeks ago! What is going on!
I did have some time to finish another project although there is one tiny problem with it.

See where it says Heel? That is not actually the heel its the smaller section below it. Who cares! Maybe I will change it later. This little guy is going up on the wall in the kitchen. I think I might make the chicken and pig version too. More soon!
One of my favorite projects is the Sunflower embroidery I did way back when I first began to embroider.
I like mandalas. They are soothing to look at and help me to feel more at peace. I am working on a new one that I really like. I am not sure where I got this pattern from but its based off a sketch I got online.
If you have time click on over to my flickr page to see them up close. I have a large file size loaded so you can see the stitching up close. All of the elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water represented. The fire on the outside is obviously for fire, the wave in the middle is water (my favorite element), the swirls of blue are air, and the leaves are for earth. I am hoping to hang it up on the wall, somewhere it can remind me to go with the flow.
These hot dancers are embroidered on an apron that was a Christmas gift to my sister this year. The pattern is from Sublime Stitching and turned out great. She loved it!
I began working on the Cherry Tree canvas embroidery again. Now that the holidays are over I can work on my own projects. I will have some photos of it soon.
